Two golden tickets in hand

for two H1N1 vaccines. You wouldn't believe it but this is the 4th time I've tried. The last time the 3 of us waited in line for 3 hours with tickets and when we finally got to the front, they had run out of adult vaccines.

I am either gonna heave a great big sigh of relief or someone will get a smack. To be continued...

Keep us posted. I'm still on the fence about vaccinating my kids. I'm not sure what to do.

@Septembermom. It's a tough decision septembermom. There is a lot of research out there defending both sides of the debate. For us personally it came down to two things:
1. We are travelling home to Canada for the holidays and neither of us can imagine breathing in everyone's air on an airplane for 8 hours-- and what will be in that air this season. We cannot afford to get ill if we can avoid it.
2. A friend of mine who was anti-vaccine "gave in" recently and got her toddler vaccinated. Her argument was this, "Hmm...now let's see. There are risks both ways. I think I'll go with the risk of side effects over, I don't know, the risk of DEATH". Sure that's a simple way to look at it and likely not very accurate but with a few people having allegedly died of H1N1 in our small town this past week, I didn't hesitate.

I will not go into all of the reasons parents opt against vaccinating their children. If I had been more aware three years ago, I likely would have opted for deferred vaccinations. Anyhow, I'll leave the anti vaccination education to Mon over at Holistic Mama.

I think you're being rather generous in talking about "research". There is certainly a lot of "opinion" out there. I think your friend got it right - it's easy to forget that you can DIE from all these infectious diseases, or instead get a reaction to the vaccination.

@Anon: Well the H1N1 vaccine is a newbie so I conquer on the more opinion vs. research statement. But when it comes to vaccinations in general, had I MYSELF done a bit more research on vaccines, I likely would NOT have had my child as immunized as he was/is in such a short period of time. This is a touchy issue though, that's for sure. And the cover story in our local paper is on the vaccine. Dying to know what it says so off to Google Translate I go :-)

@Tod. No, not typically, somebody was just plain fed up. And thankfully I was not alone. Huge front page article in the local paper today slamming the municipality for their obvious lack of proper organization concerning the H1N1 vaccinations. One woman said, "This is my 3rd time trying. I'll likely be dead before I ever get the vaccine."
