I.AM.CANADIAN

Vancouver 2010. The Opening Ceremonies tonight..well tomorrow morning my time. Just trying to figure out if I should stay up till 1:30am or have a little nap and wake up.

Funny how we Canadians don't seem to be all that patriotic until we move away from our "strong and native land" (line from the anthem). But have I ever noticed the patriotism from actual citizens and expats alike leading up to these games. Everyone's donning a maple leaf.

Games aside, I craved and wore with pride anything with a red flag after we became citizens of the world. And now, I feel I owe it to my country to stay up (or wake up) to watch the torch being carried in and the flame lit by whoever has the honour (everyone's speculating and putting in their two cents).

Now to find some red and encourage you all to watch this commercial, the best tribute to our wonderful nation that ever was:

Hi Jen, I have to disagree with you - I've lived in Canada two years, and I've never known a more patriotic people even at the calmest of times! Try and find a Canadian without a maple leaf on at any time - you won't be able to, I promise! I do however find this extremely charming, and it's part of why I love both the country and the people. (And yes, it IS the best Molson ad - ever!)!!!

GO CANADA! (And Sweden, of course!)

^Emma have you ever been to Calgary?? probably THEE most patriotic part of all of Canada, they are hardcore Canadians , they will Scream " EH" till you're deaf.

oohhh Calgarians, how I love you!!!

@Emma. I lived in Canada my entire life minus the past 4 years. Compared to our American neighbours, I wouldn't rank our level of patriotism very high. With the exception of: a) When we travel. We plaster ourselves and our luggage with maple leafs (to ward off the terrorists..ha!) b) On Canada Day! c) The Olympics! But maybe it was the parts of Canada I lived in, Nova Scotia and then the cultural melting pot that is Toronto. I am by far the most patriotic I have ever been now that I've seen some of the world. I am so proud to be Canadian. Go SWEDEN (and CANADA too). Seriously, congrats on your recent GOLDS!

@Jenn - Why, thank you! (Pretending to be the actual winner here...). What a great feeling so far, and my favourite Anja Pärson enters the stage tonight - woohoo!

Well, I've only lived in Edmonton (area) and Vancouver, but seriously everyone wore maple leafs! At least in Vanc. And if not, they (you) at least have a couple of garments from MEC on instead (which is a tell-tale sign of a Canadian of the same magnitude as a maple leaf ;) ). Love it!

@Lost in translation - yep, I've been to Calgary, but I must've worn ear plugs ;) Actually I did, come to think of it!!! I was the last one in the entire hostel to wake up by my alarm that was packed somewhere into my big backpack...I wasn't too popular that morning.
